Entry Into the Indigenous Abode
Translated into a visual vocabulary from spiritual and philosophical insights, my artwork investigates existential, ontological, epistemological, and soteriological concerns such as the nature of being, totality, time, knowledge, perception, and consciousness. They explore a number of ways to render the nature of dualistic perception as well as the awareness of wholeness, including how to access one's inherent ground of Being. To be more specific, I inquire how the perceiver, upon closely contemplating the visual language in my paintings, can be incited to gain insight into the nature of conscious perception as well as the ground from which it unfurls. By attending in this manner, I believe there is a possibility for the viewer's mind to be released from the recognizable contents of consciousness such that an open space for the direct awareness of one's ground of Being becomes possible. This is central to my investigation of visual media's capacity to spontaneously evoke an immediate awareness of Being that is free from the mind's thought-constructs.
